Owens-Illinois (O-I) enjoyed success at the Glass Packaging Institute’s (GPI) 2013 Clear Choice Awards.

The awards programme recognises achievements over the past year in creating glass packages with shelf impact.

Entries were judged on innovation, package design (including container label and closure), and consumer appeal.

Four products manufactured by O-I were selected as winners. Kona Longboard Island Lager was selected as the winner of the beer category.

Jack Daniel's Unaged Tennessee Rye was selected as the winner in the spirits category. Starbucks Iced Coffee was selected as the winner in the non-alcoholic beverage category. Tostitos Salsa's football jar was selected as the winner in the food category.

"The entries for this year's Clear Choice Awards showcased a trend in the artistry and value-add that glass packaging provides to the consumer," said Lynn Bragg, GPI president.

"Nothing communicates purity, quality and value to consumers like a well-designed glass package."

Shawn Welch, vice president of sales and marketing for O-I, said: "Numerous food and beverage companies recognise that glass is the optimal packaging choice because it preserves the integrity of their products, is 100% and endlessly recyclable, and provides unmatched product differentiation on store shelves.”
