Meanwhile, Encirc picked up four awards at the event, including Apprentice of the Year, Supply Chain Initiative, Corporate Social Responsibility, and a Lifetime Achievement award for Peter Fitzgerald.
The awards ceremony, held after the Glass Focus conference in Manchester, celebrated glass manufacturers from across Britain, with categories such as Leadership Excellence (Guardian); Outstanding Contribution (Allied); and Innovation (Stoelzle Flacconage).
A spokesperson from British Glass said of O-I that the company has demonstrated exceptional operational success, as well as making a substantial effort to increase its staff’s safety.
Over 18 months, O-I has developed the skills of all 1,000 of its front line leaders in Europe through a behaviour-based safety training programme and made a step change in safety culture.
From 2012 to 2014, there has been a 70% reduction in the recordable injury rate.
Peter Fitzgerald, who is retiring from his role as Strategic Development Director was awarded the Lifetime Achievement following more than 17 years with Encirc.
A spokesperson from Encirc said of Peter: “Peter is a true character and over the years has built many lasting friendships with customers, suppliers and of course with his colleagues.
“Simply describing glass as a bit of beach, a bit of washing powder and a bit of mountain he has an innate ability to express himself.
“His true interest in the people he has met over the years, and of course his passion for glass and the business he helped develop at Encirc will make him sorely missed.”
