Pilkington UK, part of the NSG Group, has charted a 12-fold increase in Pilkington Reeded glass sales since 2016.

The manufacturer sold over 1,000% more Pilkington Reeded glass in 2023, compared to 2016 sales, as popularity grew for the textured glass.

Glass merchant Park Glass, who supply the full range from Pilkington UK, says Pilkington Reeded glass now represents more than half of its sales in the texture glass category.

This rise in popularity reflects a broader trend in the design and architecture industry.

Pilkington Reeded glass offers a blend of aesthetic appeal, functionality, and versatility, making it popular for a wide range of applications.

Pilkington Reeded glass finds its typical applications in modular walls, dividers, partitions, and doors, providing a blend of privacy and decorative style.

It is commonly used in various settings such as healthcare facilities, corporate offices, hospitality spaces and bathrooms (see above).

Beyond its aesthetic appeal, Pilkington Reeded is also durable and low maintenance, resistant to scratches, stains, and other common forms of wear and tear.

Kirk Green, Regional Sales Manager at Pilkington UK said: “The growth in popularity of Pilkington Reeded glass speaks for itself, it is a testament to the transformative nature of textured glass in architecture.

“It’s used to take advantage of light and shadow for aesthetic purposes, add depth and provide privacy, while allowing natural light to filter through. A blend of form and function as well as a distinct aesthetic appeal is not only reshaping the current design landscape but influencing future trends.”

Pilkington Reeded is manufactured at the glassmakers Watson Street Works in St Helens, Merseyside – the same site where Pilkington was founded.

In 2024, production of its texture glass products will move up the road to Pilkington UK’s Greengate base, as the historic Watson Street Works shuts its doors.

The manufacturer is upgrading its Greengate furnace to take on the additional capacity to produce products like Pilkington Reeded, while shutting down its other furnace.

Operating out of one, upgraded, furnace in the town will save 15,000 tonnes of carbon each year, with all jobs retained.
