As part of its refractory manufacturing license from Emhart Glass, Parkinson-Spencer Refractories (PSR) of the UK has commenced production of the Swiss company’s metering spout refractories for 81, 503 and 515 feeders.
The metering spout system is a patented design of Emhart Glass that comprises a specially shaped spout, tube and orifice ring. The tube has a tapered section at the end that matches a tapered section on the outlet of the spout, creating a ‘metering valve’ for better control of the glass flow and reduced sensitivity to tube height changes.
The modified spout profile provides extra space for additional insulation around the spout, while the elliptical orifice ring allows equal flow to each orifice. A new refractory component – the heat baffle – is located inside the tube to reduce heat losses from the surface of the glass and to help equalise the glass temperature inside and outside the tube.
PSR reports that in addition to improved gob temperature uniformity and reduced gob weight variation, refractory wear of the spout, tube and orifice ring can be noticeably reduced.
