German special glass manufacturer Schott has introduced a hard cover glass for touch panels, called Xensation cover.

The glass can be used for touchscreens in smartphones as well as tablet PCs and is currently considered to be the hardest product of its kind on the market, according to Schott.

The internal tests that the company has performed have shown that with a compressive strength of more than 900 MPa, the glass offers bending and ball drop strength test resistance.

Schott has made this glass available to all of the leading manufacturers in the consumer electronics industry and processing companies in the ‘cover & touch’ industry, so that they can evaluate and test this product. Once this process has been completed, the company will be able to offer the product to manufacturers.
