Schott Pharma opened a €76 million glass production facility in Lukácsháza, Hungary yesterday (June 11).

The facility took 1.5 years to construct and will help support pharma megatrends and market growth for pre-fillable syringes made of speciality glass.

With financial support from the local government, the facility will bring more than 120 new jobs to the area.

At the same time, the company will strengthen its competitiveness in Europe and bring the supply security for major pharmaceutical companies and contract manufacturing organisations.

The company also plans to further invest a multi-million Euro amount in Hungary in pre-fillable syringes in the future.

Schott Pharma CEO Andreas Reisse, said: “With an increasing number of drugs being stored in prefillable glass syringes – from GLP-1 drugs to critical vaccines and innovative biologics, the manufacturing beginning at this site today will continue to support major trends in the pharma industry.”

The production facility was inaugurated with senior Schott staff and local dignitaries.

The new site is the second site where the company manufactures glass syringes, in addition to the site in St. Gallen in Switzerland.
