Slovenia’s Steklarna Hrastnik wanted to increase the melting capacity of Furnace G to 120 tons per day of high-quality soda lime flint glass.

Space at the plant is limited, so to meet the requirements for glass quality and production capacity, Sorg’s new calculated design increased the melting surface from 39.5m² to 57m².

Melting burners have also been increased from two to three on each side, and an air-cooled barrier wall will separate the melting and refining areas.

By installing this wall, the refining process will be greatly improved as the glass is forced to flow upwards, towards the bath surface.

Although Slovenia was classified as high-risk and had a strict lockdown, three Sorg specialists mastered the challenges of reconstructing and commissioning the furnace on-site.

We successfully completed the project on schedule to the satisfaction of the customer, and the first glass was produced recently.

Steklarna Hrastnik is a premium and super premium glassmaker for spirits and perfumery packaging.
