Rising energy costs, the Ukraine war and a transporters strike have left the Spanish container glass industry in a ‘critical’ situation.

The country’s container glass association said more than 8000 food companies which use glass container will face serious difficulties exporting their products and getting them to distribution, hospitality and catering sectors.

The general secretary of the National Association of Glass Container Manufacturers (ANFEVI), Karen Davies, told EFE: Agro that the current situation was critical.

The glass industry has been struggling to satisfy companies since the pandemic, and at the moment their problems in obtaining the correct supply of raw materials for the glass furnaces and to supply packaging to food and beverage brands, are being aggravated, she said.
