Stara Glass has become a member of the Horizon COREu project, which will create Carbon Capture and Storage solutions for the glass industry, among others.
The project is made up of consortium of over 40 companies and is led by SINTEF, one of Europe’s largest independent research organisations.
COREu aims to accelerate the transition to a low-carbon future by demonstrating key technologies for the entire Carbon Capture and Storage (CSS) value chain in Southern Europe.
It will also support the development of CCS routes linking emitters with storage sites in Central Eastern Europe.
SINTEF said COREu was the largest research and innovation project in CCS ever funded by a European programme.
To achieve its goals, COREu will bring together four potential routes and the relevant stakeholders under the same project: Prinos/Kavala in Greece, South Moravia in the Czech Republic, Baltic/Gdansk in Poland and Western Ukraine.
Through these routes, COREu will initiate the development of an open-access, transnational network to connect emitters with storage sites across Europe.
The project will focus on multimodal transportation and the creation of emitter clusters to create the necessary demand and investment rationale for the deployment of CCS.
SINTEF also co-ordinates the Horizon H2GLASS project, which Stara Glass is also a part of.
