Steuben Glass has officially closed the doors on its Corning, USA factory. The plant and retail store closed in November 2011, while production stopped in September.

Steuben Glass has been a staple of the Corning area for more than 100 years. Schottenstein Corporations of Ohio bought Steuben Glass from Corning Incorporated back in 2008, hoping to revive the brand. However, they say the Steuben name lost millions in the past five years, becoming ‘a lost cause’.

“The company continued to lose money despite different marketing efforts to keep it alive and well and we decided to close the company based off the fact that we did not believe we could make it work in the long term,” said company spokesman Ron Sykes.

The company’s flagship store in New York City will remain open until all inventory sells.
