A glass whisky bottle by Stölzle Glass Group has won a WorldStar Packaging Award in Jinan, China.
Representatives from 20 packaging associations and members of the World Packaging Organisation (WPO) gathered to judge the WorldStar Packaging Awards 2019.
The feeder black whisky bottle, ‘Highland Park - The Dark’ won in the ‘beverages’ category for its design and feeder colouration, as well as its embossing of ‘Viking Runes’.
The whisky bottle has already won a German Design Award. It was manufactured in black feeder glass with the contribution of the development and production team at Stölzle Flaconnage, the UK site of the Glass Group. The project is a great example of re-using a successful design to create a new product.
The bottle was replicated from a bottle dating back to 1876 and Viking symbolism is crafted onto the base design of the mould.
Both the bottle and packaging reflect Orkney’s Norse and Viking ancestry. It also includes a booklet describing the idea behind the design on the packaging and whisky content. It is a limited edition spirit and 28,000 bottles have been produced.
A total of 319 packaging projects from 35 countries entered the awards. The number of winners in each category were: 45 out of 64 in ‘Beverages’; 5 out of 7 in ‘Electronics’; 38 out of 56 in ‘Food’; 11 out of 32 in ‘Health & Personal Care’; 9 out of 13 in ‘Household’; 3 out of 5 in ‘Labelling & Decoration’; 5 out of 10 in ‘Luxury’; 11 out of 13 in ‘Medical & Pharmaceutical’; 22 out of 29 in ‘Other’; 14 out of 31 in ‘Packaging Materials & Components’; 9 out of 14 in ‘Point of Sale’ and 18 out of 35 in ‘Transit’.
