The thinnest* ever glass used as a car windshield, manufactured by NSG Group, is being used for Toyota Motor Corporation’s ‘i-ROAD’, an ultra-compact mobility vehicle.
The glass is laminated, consisting of 2.0mm outer-thickness + (interlayer) + 1.0mm inner-thickness. In recent car development, lighter weight designs are of important from the viewpoint of CO2 emission reduction as well as energy-efficiency.
NSG Group has successfully developed a new thin windshield manufacturing technology with the aid of the latest computer simulation and processing expertise.
Having satisfied the necessary quality elements, including transparency, in terms of automotive glass regulations in various countries, the new windshield used in this model achieves approximately a 23% weight reduction in comparison to existing standard product specifications.
The vehicle is displayed at the Toyota exhibit at the 43rd Tokyo Motor Show. The show, being held at Tokyo Big Sight in Koto Ward, Tokyo, will run from November 23 to December 1.
