Verallia France has developed its first lightweight bottle for the brewing industry.
The Long Neck 33cl bottle is part of Verallia's Ecova range of environmentally-friendly glass containers.
The bottle benefits from a 16% weight reduction, weighing 185g compared to the previous 220g.
This allows the bottle to have a lower carbon footprint.
For one million bottles produced in yellow, 12 tons of CO2 are saved.
This is equivalent to seven round trips between Paris and New York by plane.
Maud Dubois, Marketing Director of Verallia France, said: “With this new lightweight version of the Long Neck 33cl bottle, we reaffirm our commitment to supporting the brewing industry in its efforts to reduce its environmental footprint, while offering solutions that combine quality, enhancing aesthetics, and performance."
The Vauxrot plant, equipped with a multi-colour furnace, is the only Verallia France plant to produce yellow and ebony beer bottles.
Therefore, to create a lighter beer bottle, Verallia invested in lines adapted to the ‘pressed-blown’ process for the site.
This industrial practice allowed Verallia to explore new possibilities for lightening narrow-neck bottles.
Unlike the traditional ‘blown-blown’ process, the ‘pressed-blown’ process offers greater control over the distribution of glass.
Consequently, this optimises the robustness of the containers while reducing their weight.
François Navaud, Director of the Vauxrot site, said: "We are very proud to produce this new version of the Long Neck 33 cl at our Vauxrot plant, a historic site and centre of excellence for Verallia France in the beer market.
“This project reflects the industrial challenge met by our teams, who successfully installed and mastered the new pressed-blown process.”
The bottle will be available in yellow from February 28, 2025, and in ebony from May 2025.
