Guardian Glass to launch jumbo coater in North America

Guardian Glass’ new jumbo coater is on-schedule to begin operations in August at its Carleton, Michigan facility.

The US glass manufacturer plans to begin producing North America’s first Guardian SunGuard coated jumbo glass as soon as the coater starts up.

Rick Zoulek, Vice President – Americas at Guardian Glass, said: “This jumbo coater will create value for North American independent Guardian Select fabricators by increasing their product offerings and allowing them to reduce inventory and waste.

“We’re pleased to soon offer to our North American customers 20 years of jumbo coated glass experience combined with our high performance low-E SunGuard coated glass.”

Customers can order jumbo Guardian Glass products in 130” x 204” sizes, and special orders at 130” x 240”. The glass lites will be available in 6, 8 or 10 mm thicknesses, and on jumbo coated clear, tinted or low-iron float substrates according to the launch schedule: Clear, Guardian UltraClear low-iron, Gray, Green, Guardian CrystalBlue and Guardian CrystalGray.

Guardian’s SunGuard glass product line for commercial applications offers excellent solar control and a variety of colours and performance levels. SunGuard glass products provide innovative, leading solutions for appearance, economics and energy efficiency, and are available through an international network of independent Guardian Select fabricators.

This will be Guardian’s 12th jumbo coater. The manufacturer will focus its initial production on the most popular double and triple silver SunGuard coater glass for architectural applications. The use of SunGuard coated glass in jumbo sizes – on glass lites of up to 217 sq ft – opens up possibilities to architects by delivering expansive views with high performance to their designs.
