Vitro has installed two rainwater harvesting systems at its plant in Toluca, Mexico.
The systems at the Vitro Glass Containers plant were enabled in May 2024.
The two systems have a total capacity of 2,400m³.
Rainwater will be collected and then treated to eliminate any contaminants, before being reused in the cooling process in the cooling towers.
This initiative will help Vitro become more resilient to water scarcity and climate change while promoting the efficient use of natural resources.
Benefits include:
- Reduction of water footprint directly proportional to the amount of water captured.
- Reduced demand for potable water and decreased risk of supply interruptions.
- Increased awareness of the importance of responsible water management.
The initiative is aligned with Vitro’s sustainability and social responsibility model.
