Abstract
Reducing the carbon footprint – concepts for high electric power share in glass melting
The challenge of achieving climate neutrality is also reaching the glass industry. Apart from the use of sustainable fuels (hydrogen; bio-gas; etc.), this can only be realized by substituting fossil power in the glass melting process with electric power. For this purpose HORN is presenting concepts for different electric shares which are the evolutionary bridge between the two known commodities: the classic fossil fueled furnace (with electric boosting up to 5-20%) and the all electric melter.
