Assovetro, the Italian Association of Glass Industrialists, appointed a new president at its general assembly discussing the Italian glass industry.
The association elected Vitaliano Torno on 3 July.
Mr Torno has almost 40 years of experience in the world of glass at national and international level.
He has held many positions in the hollow glass sector, both commercially and in manufacturing and engineering.
He was general manager in Italy, Europe, and worldwide for O-I manufacturing.
He was also a member of FEVE, the European Federation of Glass Container Manufacturers, for over 20 years.
He served as president of FEVE for two consecutive terms.
As well as electing Mr Torno, the association also released the latest production figures for the Italian glass industry.
Mr Torno commented on Italy’s positive progress in the production sector.
He said: “The glass production sector in Italy has shown greater solidity than in other European countries, supported by greater competitiveness.
“This, however, must be an incentive to maintain the position and to continuously improve our products and processes.
“The challenges that await us are significant and demanding, especially because Italian manufacturing will have to suffer from uncompetitive context conditions with respect to energy and exposure to international trade that must absolutely find us ready.”
