SGD Pharma is set to acquire Alphial, an Italian pharmaceutical glass manufacturer, to expand its market presence in Europe.
Alphial, which has over 220 employees across four sites, specialises in ampoules, vials, and ready-to-use (RTU) products.
The acquisition, secured through an agreement with Italian private equity firm Entangled Capital, is subject to Italian FDI clearance.
Olivier Rousseau, CEO of SGD Pharma, said: “We are excited to welcome Alphial to the SGD Pharma family.
“This acquisition represents a significant milestone in our growth strategy and will enable us to better serve our clients with an expanded portfolio of services and solutions.”
The move coincides with the operations of SGD Pharma’s new tubing facility in India, developed through a joint venture with Corning.
The facility, located in Telangana, is set to produce its first tube shortly.
Its objectives include securing SGD Pharma’s supply chain, reducing its carbon footprint, and helping to master its quality.
The acquisition of Alphial aims to complement the company’s existing operations in Europe and India, as well as reinforcing the global presence of its tubular glass sector.
The integration process will begin after the closing.
